The region of Andalucía is considered to have a low crime rate, particularly in respect of violent crime. You are more likely to be a victim of petty theft, such as bag snatching or pick pocketing; this can become a problem in the summer, when the number of unsuspecting tourists increases in the busier resorts.Thankfully, Granada and the Costa Tropical are not known to be crime hotspots, with many towns and villages in the province experiencing minimal or no crime whatsoever. There are, however, sensible precautions one can take to minimise the risk of becoming a victim of crime.
Spanish Police
The Police Force in Spain is divided into three groups: Policía Nacional, Policía Local, and Guardia Civil, each assuming different responsibilities.
Reporting a Crime
Unfortunately there may come a time when you have to report a crime to the Police. Hopefully this is unlikely to happen, but should the need arise, here are some phrases that may be useful.
Guardia Civil Stations
The Guardia Civil have stations in many towns in the Province of Granada. Find your nearest Guardia Civil station here.
