How powerful is the Internet and how much is it a part of people’s lives nowadays? A recent report states that newspapers will lose more global ad share in the next 2 years, which is good news for those who are embracing the Internet in their marketing strategy.
The well respected, international advertising agency ZenithOptimedia predicts that newspapers' share of the global advertising market will, by 2009, decline to 26.2% from 29.0% in 2006.
The study released at the beginning of October concluded that, "Newspapers are suffering the most from the rapid growth of the Internet, which is better at delivering timely news and is an extremely cost effective substitute for newspaper classifieds."
ZenithOptimedia also predicts that Internet advertising will grow by a stunning 85% in the next two years, and will account for 9.5% of all expenditure in 2009, up from 6.1% in 2006. Which all makes sense when you consider that:-
There were 19,765,032 Internet users in Spain, representing 43.9% of the population, in March 2007, according to Internet World Stats. This was up by 266.8% compared to 2000. In the UK, 34% of adults go online every week to find information for leisure/holidays, according to research undertaken in March 2006 by the UK’s Office of Communications (Ofcom).
Each year approximately 14% of Spain’s average 50 million visitors come to Andalucía; this equates to 7 million visitors each year. At least 2 million of these are recorded as being in the Province of Granada, visiting The Alhambra.
