New legislation in Andalucía regarding the ownership of exotic pets has recently come into effect. The legislation covers such animals as crocodiles or large reptiles, monkeys, spiders or poisonous insects, and lions.
The new rules prohibit the keeping of such animals as personal pets, ergo they can not be kept in domestic homes. The act provides a six month window, up until October 2008, for owners to either hand in any animals that fall under the new legislation or arrange for them to be rehomed accordingly.
Also new restrictions on the ownership of dangerous dog breeds are to be included, with the Doberman being added to the list of dangerous dogs. Whilst out in public, they must wear a protective muzzle and be kept permanently on a lead measuring less than 1 metre in length. Owners will have to keep the dog’s documentation on them in public, and entry to places where there are children will be strictly prohibited.
