Three Kings Day is celebrated on January 6th, when the Spanish traditionally exchange their Christmas gifts. In the shops and supermarkets can be found the Rosca de Reyes (Three Kings Bread).
The
Rosca de Reyes is a ring-shaped bread with a small doll baked inside representing the baby Jesus. The figure symbolises the hiding of
the infant from King Herod's troops. According to tradition, whoever
finds the figure in their slice of sweet bread must give a party on
February 2nd.
Despite the hustle and bustle of 'Three Kings Day' there are many places in Granada Province who like to start the New Year off with a fiesta. The
following villages in the Province of Granada and the Costa Tropical
have local fiestas scheduled in January. Since the dates may vary each
year, please follow the website links for up to date information.
For villages that do not quote a website, fiesta dates may be checked here. |
